A bunch of technology stuff

15 Mar

For some reason, I have been unable to access my website from work, though I normally only have about 30 minutes for lunch, working on this thing is a good way for me to unwind from the morning. Anyway, since I was  unable to post from work, here is a bunch of stuff that I read about in the news this morning that was interesting to me.

Anti-Social Networking

For some reason, the "Social" web is exploding from del.icio.us to flickr to myspace and any other thing that you can think of, yes Web 2.0 is truly taking off. Well, as reported on Techcrunch, earlier today, there are a couple of sites fighting back.

One is called Isolatr, and is not really a site that offers anything at all, however, it does provide a humorous parody of the whole social web. Make sure you check out the FAQ…quite funny.

On a serious note though, there is a clever little site called Snubster. The easiest way to explain this site is for you to go look at it, so go ahead…go look. Basically, the premise of the site is that you get to tell the world if someone or something  is "on notice" (i.e. you are mad at them) or if they are "Dead to you" (i.e. you are pissed at them). So far as I can tell, the only way to see who and what you have annotated on the site is if you are actually on the site, once this is an RSS or Atom feed, I can see these things popping up all over the place, as people feed them directly to their websites.

Play Station Portable

Ok, the only really cool news that I have on this is, well there are a couple of things, I got this directly from engadet, and the link to the article is here

  1. PSP gets a price cut…to $199 by the end of the month (buy)
  2. PSP gets VOIP
  3. PSP gets camera
  4. PSP gets media download device

Read the article for more detailed information

Play Station 3

Also from engadget PS3 ships in November.

Zooomr

I tried and tried to play with this new photo sharing service, but the sign up button just wouldn’t work for me, every time I tried, everything froze up and just looked at me. Looks like it will be cool though, I am wondering how it will fare with Riya and the already well established Flickr.

Started on a late October, 26th in 2005, Zooomr was born to explore the information inside of photos.
It aims to be not merely another photo sharing service, but something that helps connect people together through photos.

Once I get a chance to log on, I will post more.

Zoomr supports 11 languages (12 if you count UK English as separate) and, even cooler, GeoTagging. GeoTagging allows you to show where the pictures were taken, which means you can also find out what pictures were taken near you. If you want to give Zoomr a try, you can use your Google or Meetro logins (both are supported)

OK, that was a lot, I was going to write about the new Google Desktop that I just installed, but it is late and I want to go to sleep. The new quick search is sweet though, download it here

The Quick Search Box located in the center of your desktop enables you to search the web and your local computer as quickly as possible. You can simply press Ctrl twice to call up this search box at any time, and press Ctrl twice again to hide it. If you don’t want to use the Quick Search Box at all, you can disable it on the Google Desktop preferences page.
